Applicata is a Danish family-owned design brand, founded in 2012 by Mette and René Løt. The brand creates timeless home accessories in FSC-certified wood, produced locally in small Scandinavian workshops. Known for iconic candleholders like the Blossom series and collaborations with talented designers such as Anders Nørgaard and Anne Boysen.

Applicata – Danish craftsmanship meets modern design

Applicata was founded in 2012 by husband-and-wife team Mette and René Løt in Rønde near Aarhus. With a deep love for wood and Scandinavian design tradition, they set out to create special gifts for special occasions – products that honour traditional craftsmanship while exploring new thinking in form and function.

From vision to reality

René Løt's journey toward Applicata began with many years of experience as a sales agent and importer for home accessories in Denmark. After helping numerous young brands enter the Danish market, he wanted to create his own collection – one that united his passion for wood with collaborations with Scandinavian designers and local craft traditions.

In 2012, René and Mette visited the Formland trade fair in Herning for the first time with a small collection developed together with designers such as Anne Boysen and Anders Nørgaard. There they won the Formland Design Award with Anne Boysen's Arch:You house design. It was the beginning of Applicata's success story.

Blossom – A design icon

Anders Nørgaard's Blossom series of candleholders quickly became a bestseller and the cornerstone of Applicata's range. Inspired by flower buds such as tulip, lily and rose, as well as classic candleholders from the 1950s and 60s, Blossom combines organic forms with timeless minimalism. The series is available in numerous colours – from soft pastels to bold neon shades – and is crafted from FSC-certified oak and beech wood.

Locally produced in Scandinavia

All Applicata products are manufactured locally in small, family-owned workshops in Denmark and Sweden. This not only ensures high quality and authenticity but also significantly reduces the carbon footprint. The brand uses only FSC-certified wood and often recycles smaller pieces of wood left over from other production – a mindful approach to sustainability.

Design with soul

Applicata collaborates with a curated team of talented architects, designers and artists, including Anders Nørgaard, Anne Boysen, Amanda Lilholt, Rikke Skytte, UnnaTrä and Trine Find. Together they create products that flirt with Scandinavian traditions while looking forward with a modern and functional expression. From candleholders and clocks to vases, trays and hooks – each product is designed to last for generations.

A gift for generations

Applicata's products are created from durable materials such as solid wood, real brass, glass and paper – materials that age beautifully over time. Many collections are delivered in reusable gift boxes, decorated by Danish artist Pernille Snedker, making them perfect as meaningful gifts for special occasions.
